The Club has had a long history in racing from the very first days of the Club.

Originally sailing from venues around the Thames and then into the Solent and East Coast. Later on the Club broadened its sailing into bigger yachts which meant it was able to compete in offshore sailing.   Club Members continue to race in a variety of craft from windsurfers to larger offshore racers.   The Club has had many entries into the Fastnet race over the years (latest was a fully RNR crew in 2015) in Club owned yachts and members own craft.

The Round The Island Race is always well supported and the Club has had entries in Cowes week.

It is intended the 2018 programme will include both offshore and inshore races as well as race training and we intend to provide opportunities for regatta participation.

    • Mid-Solent to Poole

The Channel Sailing Club (via RNVR Yacht Club member David Murch) have kindly invited Yachts and Crew from the RNVR Yacht Club to join them in their Passage Races to Poole on 22nd /23rd September and also join them in the evening and overnight arrangements in Poole Harbour.

The Saturday Race to Poole usually starts around mid Solent at a time suitable to catch most of the westward Tide. The return Race will likewise start at an appropriate time from Poole  on Sunday Morning.  Overnight berthing will be arranged in Poole and Dinner Saturday night at a suitable venue which the CSC hopes the RNVR Yacht Club will join.

The Passage races are part of the CSC Series of 12 to 16 races and for this the CSC Yachts will be racing on CSC Handicaps.  RNVR Yacht Club yachts will be run using NHC base ratings so everyone can see how well they have done overall.   RNVR Yacht Club yachts  are welcome to join in both Saturday and/or  Sunday Races.    If the RNVR Yacht Club have more crew than the RNVR Yacht Club yachts can handle or if there are no RNVR Yacht Club yachts and some of the RNVR Yacht Club Members would like to experience some relatively light hearted Racing, there maybe additional Space on the CSC Yachts (numbers may have to be limited on this).

Registration should be completed by 1600hrs the Saturday before. Handicaps are RYA NHC based and available for most of yachts in the Club Fleet.

The Racing as mentioned is ‘relatively’ light hearted ( everyone likes to win). The CSC Yachts are a mixture of Shapes and sizes, some racers but mostly cruising Yachts. Usually there are anything between 7 to 12 CSC yachts participating.   Yachts may also participate just as a "Rally Entry”. I would anticipate some yachts will be “White Sailed” so don’t worry if you don't have a spinnaker.

At this stage all we are seeking are EOI's from anyone interested.

Expressions of interest should be sent to me commodore@rnvryc.org.
