Training

The Club Rules state that the Club's principal objectives include:
    • to provide members with sail training and economical sailing facilities
    • to maintain access to craft for the use of members
    • to provide opportunities for educational association between members

Club members have various opportunities to undertake training to develop their sailing, seamanship and navigational skills, both formally and informally and both ashore and at sea.  These opportunities form part of the Club's annual programme and are therefore kept under regular review by the Committee.

Although the Club is not itself a Recognised RYA Training Centre, it has good connections with a number of such establishments, both on the South Coast and further afield, and members may be able to take advantage of courses at discounted rates. At times there are also opportunities to undergo sea training in warmer climes and at moderate cost.

Members wishing to develop their sailing, seamanship and navigational skills on a more informal basis can do so by entering their names as available crew on the Club's Crew Register and by crewing for another, boat-owning Club member in his/her boat.  Also, during the sailing season the Club holds one or more Skipper/Crew events, which take place usually in the Solent and which take the form of meets of Club boats whose skippers make berths available to members without their own boats.
